Terrifying Jesus?

What would it have been like to experience Jesus in His power? We want God to manifest His strength and do something great in our lives. But our requests generally collapse into, “God, fix my problem … but do it from a distance because I don’t feel comfortable with too much outward expression.”

The average Christian wears a “Do Not Disturb” placard on their life. We just want to float down the river of life and not be ruffled. When we face storms and ask God for deliverance from them, we are asking for the pain and discomfort to go away. But it seems that God has a completely different agenda. God wants to reveal Himself to us through them. We want deliverance from our problems. God wants to use our problems to deliver us into His supernatural Kingdom.

Do we have the courage to stand in such power? Mark 4:41 says the disciples were terrified of Jesus and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!” Have we ever pictured Jesus as terrifying?

Read the revelations of divine appearances in Daniel 10 or Revelation 1. They are not characterized as happy, joyous fun events. Isaiah, in Isaiah 6, had a vision of God on His throne and was so disturbed he said, “Woe is me. I am ruined.” In that vision God spoke to him and said, “Who shall I send? Who will go for us? Isaiah said, “Here I am. Send me.” God wants us to have a “Here I am. Send me.” placard on our life.

We celebrate the powerful resurrection of Jesus but, to what level are we willing to experience the Resurrected Jesus? Do we want only to be hidden and undisturbed? Or would we have the courage to see Jesus in His power? The disciples were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”

Are we asking for a real encounter? Be careful, you may get what you ask for!

-Blessings.
