Why did God call out to Adam, “Where are you?” (Genesis 3:9) People hide because they do not want to be found. They have something that they do not want exposed. There is a tender spot. They are embarrassed and ashamed.
“Where are you?” is a foundational question for our spiritual lives. We cannot go to a new place without an accurate assessment of where we are. This question needs to be repeatedly asked and honestly answered at every stage of our lives. The deeper we can answer that question, the deeper our transformation.
The answer for why we hide, is the same for all of us.
“I am hiding because I am a failure.”
Our natural tendency is to hide our failures and sins. But God is looking for open hearts. Humility. Honesty.
In 1 Kings 19, Elijah was hiding in a cave and twice God asked Elijah, “Why are you here?” Elijah was afraid and alone. God’s response was that Elijah was not alone. God had seven thousand others that were faithful. Then God gave Elijah his next assignment. When we allow God to speak to us in our hiddenness, He will bring us to a new place with our next assignment.
Are you hungry for your next assignment? God is not done with you. God wants to distribute true riches, true Presence, eternal Life to this world through you! None of us is living in the fullness of what Ephesians 1:3 says, “every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ”.
Run to Him with all your might! Do not miss any of the blessings He has prepared for you! God is asking you now, “Where are you?” Today, hear His assignment for you.
Blessings.
