Thrown to the Crocodiles

Exodus 2 recounts a story of Moses’ mother putting Moses in a basket and placing him in the Nile River. The law at that time required all newborns of the Hebrews be thrown into the Nile. Moses’ mother hid him for as long as she could, then let him go.

All parents need to learn a painful lesson from this. There comes a time when we must release our children into a world of crocodiles, snakes, and biting insects. We can’t protect them. Our children have no protection against such attacks. Fortunately, God is more than able to protect them and save them in any circumstance. As God has been with us, He will be with them!

Moses’ mother was a slave. In releasing Moses, God brought another “mentor-mom” to complete what his birth mom could not accomplish. Moses needed royalty to train him to be a world leader. Moses’ birth mother did what she could, but Moses needed more.

Many people suffer their whole lives because of their birth mother’s failures. It is time we rejoice in the mentor-moms that have blessed us. We have made it because of the many “moms” that loved us, guided us, and admonished us.

Have we been that mentor-mom, or dad, to those whom God has brought into our lives? Let’s get past our family failures and become the encourager that strengthens others.

Blessings.
