*STORY BEHIND THE SONG … Many years ago, during an interview on the Christian Television Network with the former late night show host Jim Gates, Eric Young was asked the question, “How do you balance working a full time job and leading a ministry with the responsibilities of being a husband and a father?” And Eric responded, “Well, you know, God’ll give you just the right whatever you need!” And Jim Gates said, “Whoa! What did you just say?” And laughingly repeated the long phrase several times! And Denise, also being interviewed, thought to herself, “Now THAT would make a great song!” Denise was teaching a Songwriting Class at the time, and she brought that catchy phrase to her class and gave a “writing from the title” assignment. The next week, one of her students, Jean Giroux, completed the assignment and returned to class with a new song using Eric’s title, “God’ll Give Ya Jus’ the Right Whatever You Need!”. The recording of this song is a bit overdue, but here it is! Enjoy!

*Sometimes in one’s lowest valley, God gives a song in the night. “Don’t Give Up!” is one such song. Daniel Lavoie grew up in the midst of horrific abuse, and learned to compartmentalize just to survive. Even though Daniel had become a Christian in his young adult years while serving in the Army, he still needed the deliverance, healing, and restoration that follows – that “benefit package” listed in Psalm 103. Our Heavenly Father heard the cry of Daniel’s heart and overwhelmingly enveloped him in His unconditional love, grace, and mercy, giving Daniel hope, healing, faith, and expectancy with the message and song of “Don’t Give Up!”. Daniel wants every listener to experience that same great love that only comes from the Father, and to be encouraged to never give up!
5. “MAMA’S TORAH” (Michael Persons & C. Denise Young)
Piano: C. Denise Young Guitar: Michael Persons Bass: Michael Persons Violin: Michael Persons Orchestration: C. Denise Young (Clarinet & Violin) Orchestration: Michael Person (Cello, Harp, & Violin) Co-Arrangers: C. Denise Young & Michael Persons Composers: Michael Persons & C. Denise Young
Co-Producers: C. Denise Young & Michael Persons Executive Producers: Eric & C. Denise Young Co-Engineers: Michael Persons & C. Denise Young Mix/Master Engineer: Michael Persons
Recorded at: Heavenly Places Music Studio (Clearwater, FL) and Everywhere Music Plays Productions (Fredericksburg, VA).
STORY behind the SONG: The original concept for “Mama’s Torah” was composed and recorded by C. Denise Young as a musical segue for an Audio Book titled, “Mama’s Torah: The Role of Women” (Batya Ruth Wootten). Years later, because of its short length, as it was only a musical segue, Denise used it for a class assignment at Berklee Music Online. She then decided to finish the song, and brought in former Berklee Music classmate Michael Persons as a collaborator, who was and is an accomplished musician, arranger, producer, and engineer, to assist in completing “Mama’s Torah” as an orchestrated instrumental recording!
• The energetic melodies in the Verse and Chorus of “Mama’s Torah” depict the mother’s passion in teaching God’s Word and precepts to her children, • The strings reflect the children’s contesting, whining, and saying “Oh no, not again!”. • The gentle antiphonal guitar musically speaks the soft replies of the mother’s heart, but then quickly progresses to intense and distinct allegro scale passages, which might portray the mom’s fast talking in trying to get in all of the needed instruction before the children interrupt again, and/or grow up too fast. • The soothing woodwinds in the Bridge demonstrate the mom’s “let’s pause a moment, and communicate in a much slower, softer, and controlled tone so that you will receive the instruction and not be defensive!” • The key change is the emphasized “Now, let’s go over this lesson one last time!” • The climactic ending in the Coda illustrates the mom’s final words of, “I’ve said it once, I’ve said it twice, I’ve said it three times, and that’s that!”
Because the instruments so adequately deliver the dialogue in “Mama’s Torah”, words are not necessary. The music speaks for itself! Enjoy!
Proverbs 1:8-9 – “Listen, my son (and daughter), to your father’s instruction and do not forsake your mother’s teaching. They are a garland to grace your head and a chain to adorn your neck.”
Proverbs 6:20-22 – “My son (and daughter), keep your father’s command and do not forsake your mother’s teaching. Bind them always on your heart; fasten them around your neck. When you walk, they will guide you; when you sleep, they will watch over you; when you awake, they will speak to you.”
