2 Corinthians 4:7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, so that the surpassing greatness of the power will be of God and not from ourselves.
Evidently, we have a “treasure” that results in “surpassing greatness” (a superlative for you English language folk) of the power of God. Unfortunately, it feels like our unbounded greatness is MIA! Where is it? The following verses give us a hint.
V8 “we are pressed but not crushed”. It is next to impossible to crush a steel block but easy to crush an aluminum can. Some people get crushed. We feel the pressure but the power of God in us holds us up.
V8 “perplexed, but not despairing”. Many things we do not understand, but we do not give up.
V9 “persecuted, but not forsaken”. Ostracized, marginalized, but we always know the Holy Spirit is with us.
V9 “struck down, but not destroyed”. Knocked to the ground but not grounded.
Things that would have brought complete destruction to others, draw us closer to Jesus.
V17 “For momentary, light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison, 18 while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal.”
Your spiritual strength is directly tied with your eyes connected to the Kingdom. With the right focus your spiritual strength is magnified beyond mere mortals (1 Corinthians 3:3).
We will overcome. We will be victorious. We will receive great rewards. And, if we keep our eyes on Jesus, we will enjoy the trip!!!!
Blessings.
