Colossians 2:6-7; So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, 7 rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.
Does “overflowing thankfulness” describe you?
It is interesting that even though we are commanded to overflow with thankfulness, thankfulness is a response, not a cause. We are commanded to be thankful but we have to ask the additional question, “For what?” We have to search for causes to thankful.
This forces us to reorient our thinking. We have to force ourselves to think of the good things rather than bad things. Thinking dark thoughts is encouraged by the world today. Struggle is everywhere. TV dramas outnumber comedies. News is rarely “good”.
It is strange that we have to be commanded to have good, encouraging, healthy thoughts. Like a child forced to play a game. Once they start, they enjoy it. Once we start having thankful thoughts, we want to be overflowing with thankfulness.
Blessings.
