Ah, a new year! A new year is an opportunity to look back at last year, and then reset our aim for the coming year.
You might start out by asking yourself this question, “If I could have something in my life changed in an instant, what would I want it to be?” If you are like me, you would like many and varied things changed. So, I categorize my changes in terms of body, soul, and spirit.
The first thing that usually comes to one’s mind when thinking about new year changes is getting a healthier body. Trimming the weight and getting exercise always come up somewhere in the “New Years’ Resolutions” list! As we age, aches and pains are a part of our daily lives. When did the distance to our shoes become a country mile?
The next category is the soul. I will define “soul” as mind and emotions. I want my brain to be sharper and always learning. I want more emotional strength, boldness, compassion, and a better understanding of people.
The final category is spirit. I want my spirit strong. I want to be confident in fulfilling my purposes in the Kingdom of God. I want to live above “normal” existence and be in tune with the Holy Spirit and His supernatural calling.
Now, I would like these changes to happen instantly in my life. Unfortunately, immediate changes rarely happen. So, the best thing is to steer each day’s decisions towards the goals of these three categories. Paul said in Philippians 3:13-14,
“Forget what lies behind and reach forward to what lies ahead. Press on toward the goal, which is the prize of the call of God in Christ Jesus.”
So today and every day, let’s aim our lives in ways that bring strength and maturity to our body, soul, and spirit.
